eigentlich Ọchs, Basler Ratsherrenfamilie. 1818/19 nahmen die Söhne des Politikers und Historikers P. Ochs den urgroßväterlichen Namen His an. Bedeutende Vertreter:
 
 1) Rudolf, schweizerisch-deutscher Rechtshistoriker, * Basel 15. 7. 1870, ✝ Münster 22. 1. 1938; Professor in Heidelberg, Königsberg (heute Kaliningrad) und Münster; Herausgeber des »Deutschen Rechtswörterbuches«; erforschte die lokalen und regionalen mittelalterlichen Rechtsquellen.
 
 2) Wilhelm, schweizerisch-deutscher Anatom, * Basel 9. 7. 1831, ✝ Leipzig 1. 5. 1904, Vater von 3); ab 1857 Professor in Basel, ab 1872 in Leipzig (dort Gründer und Leiter des Anatomischen Institut); embryologische und histologische Forschungen, besonders zur Entwicklungsgeschichte des Zentralnervensystems. His war ab 1866 Mitherausgeber des »Archivs für Anthropologie« sowie ab 1876 der »Zeitschrift für Anatomie und Entwicklungsgeschichte«. Seine »Anatomische Nomenclatur« (1895) bildete die Grundlage der Basler »Nomina anatomica« (1907).
 
 3) Wilhelm, schweizerisch-deutscher Internist, * Basel 19. 12. 1863, ✝ Riehen 10. 11. 1934, Sohn von 2); ab 1902 Professor in Basel, 1906/07 in Göttingen und anschließend in Berlin; arbeitete v. a. über Krankheiten des Stoffwechsels und des Herzens; entdeckte dabei das später nach ihm benannte His-Bündel.
